Land Rover has revealed an unprecedented luxury SUV at the LA Auto Show – the Range Rover SVAutobiography.

The new flagship model combines peerless craftsmanship and technology, including rear doors that close at the touch of a button and an advanced plug-in petrol-electric powertrain.

The most luxurious Range Rover yet, the long-wheelbase SVAutobiography is available with a comprehensive range of powertrain options, from Jaguar Land Rover’s new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) driveline to an uprated 565PS V8 supercharged petrol engine.

It leads a show line-up that includes the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in an unmatched display of British design and next-generation technology.

We continue to refine and hone our flagship Range Rover. Highly sophisticated and with a unique combination of British sensibilities, the Range Rover SVAutobiography reinforces Range Rover’s status of peerless excellence.

Convenience features provide a first-class customer experience, with enhanced Executive Class rear seats and a trademark fixed centre console that extends the full length of the cabin. The flagship model is also the first SUV to provide Power Close Rear Doors, allowing passengers to shut the rear doors using convenient buttons on the rear centre console.

Electrically deployable rear tables and integrated rear entertainment screens ensure customers can use the 4G WiFi connectivity to work or relax in comfort, while a concealed refrigerator between the twin rear seats can hold two wine bottles or four 600ml plastic bottles, plus two glasses.

An exclusive new Zenith clock, inspired by the Elite 6150 watch, features on the rear centre console.

The chassis has been recalibrated to ensure heightened comfort does not come at the expense of driving dynamics or all-terrain capability, while the advanced PHEV powertrain provides serene refinement – with up to 31 miles (51km) of whisper-quiet EV-only range.

The new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid option too, offering sustainable luxury and performance as well as the latest consumer technology and enhanced exterior design. Both appear in the US for the first time at the LA show.

A unique Land Rover Discovery created for chef and TV personality Jamie Oliver by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations will also star in LA. The ultimate kitchen on wheels, Jamie’s bespoke family SUV comes with a host of features including a slow-cooker, barbecue, ice cream maker and olive oil dispenser.

Chefs Donal Skehan and Caroline Artiss appeared with Jamie’s versatile Discovery on the Good Day LA TV show to cook Thanksgiving leftovers and the pair also used it at the Smorgasburg LA food and drink market.

The Land Rover range is at the LA Convention Center from 1-10 December

New PHEV powertrain

The efficient new Range Rover P400e provides sustainable performance by combining a 300PS (221kW) 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 116PS (85kW) electric motor. The 404PS (297kW) total available power output [1] – available through the permanent four-wheel drive system – delivers 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds) and a maximum speed of 137mph (220km/h).

With an impressive 640Nm of torque, the new powertrain combines to deliver dynamic performance with traditional Range Rover capability, comfort and refinement.

Thanks to its electrified powertrain, the Range Rover P400e emits only 64g/km on the NEDC combined cycle and provides an all-electric range of up to 31 miles (51km) without the Ingenium petrol engine running. For the first time, customers choosing Land Rover’s flagship SUV can experience zero-emission driving.

The P400e provides whisper-quiet refinement with uncompromised off-road capability as well as enabling entry into areas with restrictions for air quality, including most congestion charging zones.

Drivers of the new PHEV model can choose from two driving modes:

1. Parallel Hybrid mode (the default driving mode) – combines petrol and electric drive. The driver can optimise battery charge or fuel economy by utilising one of two charge management functions:

    > SAVE function – prevents the battery charge dropping below a pre-selected level

   > Predictive Energy Optimisation (PEO) function – entering a destination in the navigation system enables the feature, which utilises in built GPS altitude data for the selected route, to intelligently combine the electric motor and petrol engine to maximise fuel economy

2. EV (Electric Vehicle) mode – enables the vehicle to run solely on the electric motor using the energy stored in the battery, making it the ideal solution for quiet, zero-emission journeys

When rapid charging the 13.1kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery, a full charge can be achieved in as little as 2 hours 45 minutes at home using a dedicated 32 amp wall box. The battery can be fully charged in 7 hours 30 minutes using the 10 amp home charging cable supplied as standard. The Range Rover’s battery is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile, 70 per cent state of health warranty.
