Land Rover wins Best Towcar in Caravan owners survey

14 January 2013

Whitley, Warwickshire, 14 January 2013: Caravan enthusiasts have voted the Land Rover Discovery 4 top when it comes to choosing a new tow car.

The survey of 100 caravan owners was carried out by The Camping and Caravanning Club's insurance division, Club Care Insurance, which revealed 19 per cent of those questioned said the ideal vehicle to replace their current one would be a Land Rover.

The next highest brand only polled 11 per cent, with the remaining car manufacturers all in single figures.

Commenting on the report, Nigel Coppen, Client Director at Club Care Insurance, said: "In addition to the strength and solidity of Land Rover vehicles and the fact they offer caravanners a good vantage point on their travels, there's nothing like the unparalleled four‑wheel drive ability for getting your caravan off its pitch, whatever the weather."

Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to receive this award as it is directly voted for by consumers. The Discovery 4 is packed with clever technology to make the life of a caravanner safer and easier. This accolade is a strong independent testament to the versatility and capability of Land Rover products."

The Land Rover Discovery 4 features a host of intelligent technology creating a safe and comfortable towing experience: Trailer Stability Assist (which comes as a standard feature) automatically detects the presence of a trailer. Once 37 mph is reached, the sensors monitor the behaviour of the trailer. Should any swaying or oscillation occur, the system uses selective braking of the appropriate wheels to help correct any potential problem.

In addition, Towing Assist, a next‑generation reversing aid, is also included with the optional Surround Camera System. The Towing Assist technology predicts the trajectory of both vehicle and trailer ‑ guiding when coupling a trailer and providing a predicted path for the vehicle when reversing by superimposing coloured lines over the image on the touch‑screen.

Land Rover is already a popular and award‑winning brand with the towing community. It has been honoured with the Camping and Caravanning Club's 'Best Towcar' award in the 'Over 1,900kg' category for the past three years. The 2012 honour was given to the Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XS. The Land Rover Discovery 4 is available from £38,825
