Whitley, UK 15 July 2014 ‑ Land Rover has further enhanced its long‑standing association with the global sailing community by providing two Discovery vehicles to a busy marina in Scotland.
Rhu Marina in Helensburgh is little more than 20 miles on the train from Glasgow ‑ the ideal location for boat‑owners and sports fans to berth and travel into Glasgow and Edinburgh during the Commonwealth Games in July and August.
Land Rover is providing two Discovery vehicles to marina staff, which will be used to provide a courtesy shuttle service to and from Helensburgh railway station. Direct trains go through Glasgow's main Queen Street station, and call at stations serving various sporting venues all the way to Edinburgh.
The Land Rover Discovery with its seven seats and 1192 litre loading capacity means that guests will be able to travel in comfort between the marina and the sporting events taking place in Scotland.
Rhu Marina lies on the east side of Gare Loch, on the north bank of the Firth of Clyde and has a 250‑berth facility with 35 swinging moorings. It is anticipating several hundred extra visitors from all over the world during this summer.
Suzanne Bell, manager of Rhu Marina, commented: "Rhu Marina likes to go the extra mile for its guests, and the Land Rover Discovery is the perfect vehicle to transport them. Many of our global guests are Land Rover owners and enthusiasts, so we are delighted to be able to chauffeur them in comfort and style."
The Commonwealth Games is being staged from 23 July to 3 August, and is the largest multi‑sport event ever held in Scotland.
Land Rover's sponsorship of global competitive sailing dates back to 1988 when the brand first sponsored Cowes Week. The Extreme Sailing Series of global challenges is supported by Land Rover, and the off‑road brand is also Team Partner of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
