A NEW STANDARD IN SUV LUXURY

23 August 2010

We like to think that our expanding line‑up of Range Rover Autobiography models is writing the book on SUV luxury, writes Finbar McFall, Vice President, Marketing, Land Rover North America.

It was fascinating to spend the day at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, part of the Pebble Beach automotive weekend, introducing our new flagship, the Range Rover Autobiography Black limited edition to potential customers.

This was a highly‑affluent audience to whom total luxury in a vehicle is a basic requirement. They enjoy bespoke luxury and craftsmanship in their sedans and sports cars and want, no expect, the same standard in their SUV.

That’s why there was so much interest in our new Autobiography Black limited edition. Created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Range Rover, this is simply the most luxurious Range Rover model we’ve ever built, and sets a new standard in SUV interior craftsmanship and quality.

The exterior design is set apart with the use of a unique Barolo Black paint, 20" diamond turned alloy wheels, unique front grille and side vents and an Autobiography Black tailgate badge. On the inside, hand‑stitched semi‑aniline leather covers; the seats, the fascia, the door panels and the headlining. In addition the Autobiography Black limited edition comes with embossed black lacquer‑finish veneers and rear seat headrests.

With the Autobiography Black limited edition comes a choice of three interior color options; Jet/Jet, Jet/Ivory or Jet/Pimento.

I know a large part of the reason why buyers are taking a fresh look at our latest Range Rovers is because of the re‑designed interiors. These changes have not only improved the functionality and ergonomics, but also take the interior quality and craftsmanship to a whole new level.

I’m sure it was a large part of the reason why Robb Report magazine just gave the Range Rover Autobiography its coveted “Best of the Best” Award. It’s also part of the reason why Range Rover sales were up 51 per cent in July compared to July 2009.

Certainly, over the coming months we’ll be increasing our marketing focus on the Autobiography range. We see it as a new chapter in Range Rover’s success story.
