[raam]Race Across America - Day 2 & 3
15 June 2010
June 13, 2010 ‑ 1:00 p.m.
I just woke up and it appears the team has entered Prescott, Ariz. I was sad to leave California but I'm excited to see what Arizona has in store for us. So far, this trip has allowed me, and the team to really appreciate all the natural beauty the U.S. has to offer.
The riders had a pretty brutal day combating some major hills, but none the less ‑ all are still doing well. There was, however, a bit of heavy competition today between our team (805) and team 803. Rules state that riders are supposed to yield to any other rider's support vehicle if the approaching rider is quicker. Team 803 disregarded this rule and would not yield. Our riders stayed focused and determined as they did not give in after an hour of back and forth between both teams. It was very exciting to watch and in the end, we beat the other team to the time station in Congress, Ariz. Team 803 has since fallen back while our team continues to push forward at a great pace.
On another note, I had my first shower today since we started. You don't realize how much you miss those until you can't take them whenever you want! Thankfully I don't sweat much.
Right now I'm waiting for my turn in the LR4. My shift should be over around 8 p.m. where I'm hoping to catch up on some sleep.
June 14, 2010 ‑ 1:30 a.m.
After another long day of driving, I just woke up and am currently aboard RV 1 on my way to meet the LR4 to start my shift again.
I will be driving for the next six hours and Alex will navigate. I'm not quite sure where we are at the moment but I think we're still traveling in Ariz.
The entire team continues to be in good spirits. Having become somewhat of a family, there are of course times of aggravation and minor arguments, but at the end of the day we all stop to remember why we are embarking on this journey and the issues of argument become immediately forgotten.
Everyday I become more and more impressed with the riders on this team and the crew as a whole. I'm lucky to be in the presence of some really talented and competitive people who have truly made me feel part of their team.
I will check back in for an update on our progress as soon as possible. Over and out for now!
