SHAPING UP

Decisions, decisions. Coupe or Five‑door? Prestige or Dynamic? Contrasting roof color, or not? Choosing your new car is never easy, says Leah Watkins‑Hall, Corporate, Brand & Interactive Communications Manager for Jaguar Land Rover North America.
As the ground‑breaking all‑new Range Rover Evoque gears up for production this summer, we’ve asked our 40 ‘City Shapers’ from around the globe to personalize the Range Rover Evoque they’ll be driving, to reflect their own individual tastes and styles.
These ‘City Shapers’ are leading influencers from the worlds of fashion, design, music, film and sports, who’ve helped shape the cities they live in. They’re an essential part of our innovative ‘Pulse of the City’ marketing initiative that’s generating buzz before the launch.
Here in North America, our nine City Shapers, split between N.Y. and L.A., include the likes of Founder & Editor of Coolhunting.com, Josh Rubin; and multi‑talented TV and fashion journalist, Louise Roe.
When they take delivery of their new Range Rover Evoque vehicles, they will be sharing – on Helloevoque.com and Interactivelandrover.com – how the smallest, lightest, most fuel‑efficient Range Rover ever produced fits into their own lifestyle in the city where they live and work.
Louise Roe told us, “The five‑door was more of a practical decision, because I’m always lugging dresses, groceries or friends around town.”
Explained Josh Rubin, “As I’m in and out of the car all the time, with friends and dogs, I went the more practical route and chose the five‑door, even though I think the styling of the Coupe is pretty hot.”
Picking a color was equally as tough for some. New York City Shaper Darrelle Revis, the New York Jets’ star cornerback, wanted his Range Rover Evoque to stand out in the city, so he went for Firenze Red with a contrasting black roof. Two other City Shapers, L.A.‑ based actor Miles Fisher and N.Y.‑based Piers Fawkes, Founder of the influential PSFK.com, both went for the cool, monochromatic look of Borolo Black, with a black roof and Ebony interior.
Explained Josh Rubin: “While I normally go for an all‑black car, I wanted to honor the Range Rover brand's British heritage and bring in a note of racing green," so he went for Kosrae Green. Adding, "The 20‑inch black wheels should provide a strong but balanced counterpart to the black roof.”
When the new Range Rover Evoque goes on sale this fall, every customer will be able to personalize their vehicle to their own lifestyle with an array of design, trim and technology options.
In addition to the three trim levels – Pure, Prestige and Dynamic – there’ll be a choice of 12 exterior colors, three contrasting roof colors, five alloy wheel designs, 12 tailored designer interiors, plus a vast selection of official accessories.
When I asked Louise Roe why she went for a Fuji White with Tan color scheme for her new Range Rover Evoque she didn’t miss a beat.
“The white and tan mix is very simple but stylish – similar I guess to how I like to dress. I’ve always joked that I wanted a car one day that goes with all of my clothes. Funny enough, I think I’ve finally found it.”
