Something Borrowed

10 May 2011

It's not every day you answer the phone and someone invites you to walk the red carpet at a Hollywood movie premiere, but last week I was lucky enough to get that call. I was invited to the premiere of 'Something Borrowed' starring Kate Hudson, as a Land Rover LR4 played a supporting role in the movie, writes Deborah Sandford, National Communications and Events Manager for Land Rover North America.

Last week, I was wading through mud at the Rolex Kentucky Three‑Day Event in Ky. (sponsored by Land Rover) and this week I was heading to a star‑studded premiere of 'Something Borrowed' at the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.

It's truly the breadth of capability and appropriateness that makes the Land Rover brand such a global icon. Land Rover vehicles look just as good pulling horse trailer across a muddy field, as they do driving around in a Hollywood romantic comedy, not to mention pulling up to the Red Carpet.

Speaking of red carpet, the carpet of choice for the 'Something Borrowed' premiere was blue, powder blue. As my colleague Nicole Logue and I arrived at the theatre, a crowd was milling around hoping for a celebrity sighting and this night didn't disappoint. Once inside the inner sanctum, we were ushered past a sea of paparazzi taking pictures of the movie's stars, Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Krasinski and new break out actor Colin Egglesfield ‑ look out ladies; this is one actor to keep your eye on!

You first catch a glance of the Land Rover LR4 early into the movie, when the group of lead actors head out of town for a weekend trip. The LR4 looked fantastic up on the big screen and was a natural fit for the characters.

To make it happen, our product placement team worked with the film makers as they were deciding what vehicle was appropriate for the characters in this movie. Once decided, Land Rover North America provided the LR4 vehicles necessary to get all the shots needed for the film.

'Something Borrowed' is a fun, upbeat, very amusing comedy that's definitely worth seeing. The LR4 cameo in the film was the icing on the cake that may have me going back to see it for a second time!
