LAND ROVER FEATURED ON THE TUMBLR THEME INDEX

Each year, Tumblr, one of the world’s fastest-growing social networking websites, sifts through over 150 million blogs for its top 51 influential Tumblr Theme Index picks.

This year, Land Rover North America’s Tumblr blog, The Journey, was one of only three automotive brand sites to make the Index. Ken Bracht, Communications Manager, Land Rover North America explains its significance.

How Momentous is this Accolade?
Each day, Tumblr hosts a staggering 97 million new posts along with over 150 million blogs. Tumblr looks across all blogs and selects only 51 to be included in an annual publication it calls the Tumblr Theme Index. It’s great to be acknowledged amongst the best of all of the personal and corporate blogs.

What does it take to be included in the Theme Index?
Tumblr is looking for quality of content, uniqueness of design and obviously remarkable creative that is thoughtful and engaging. Since we launched on Tumblr back in March 2011, we’ve focused our efforts on making The Journey as innovative and relevant as we possibly can.

Why is Tumblr important to Land Rover?
We’re finding that Tumblr fosters engagement, allowing fans to share and follow the journeys of our photographers as they experience the vehicles through the eyes of their lens. And through these remarkable images, we’re able to tell the story of Land Rover’s renowned breadth of capability and iconic design.

Where is the photography sourced?
We commission cutting-edge, socially connected photographers to help Land Rover tell the story of our vehicles in a highly engaging and innovative way. We give them creative license to photograph the vehicle in a unique setting. The images featured in this year’s Tumblr Theme Index were shot by a young San Francisco-based photographer named Arthur Chang who captured some truly remarkable shots of the Range Rover in Iceland.

Is the focus solely on images of Land Rover going off-road?
Not at all. The Journey offers visitors a choice of six different categories - Cityscape, Architecture, Heritage, Culture, Landscape and Off-Road. There are some incredibly diverse images here. We recently featured the work of Indian-born New York-based photographer Saunak Shah, who captured images of a Range Rover Evoque in and around New York City.

How often are you posting new material to Land Rover’s Tumblr blog?
We aim to post around three times a week. Right now on The Journey, we’re featuring the work of award-winning British photographer Anthony Cullen who joined Land Rover Expedition America on a 27-day, 4,375-mile off-road drive across the U.S., from North Carolina to Oregon.

Did you receive an actual award for this recognition from Tumblr?
It was better than that. Tumblr CEO and founder David Karp is closely involved in selecting the 51 top blogs and signs-off on the list. We got a framed version of the two-page spread featured in the Tumblr Theme Index that has been personally signed by David.
