In its fourth year as the official vehicle of the Rolex Kentucky Three‑Day Event, Land Rover now moves into the presenting sponsorship category
(MAHWAH, N.J.) ‑ April 22, 2013 ‑Land Roverannounced today that the company will host its second annual "Land Rover Tailgate Challenge" at the 2013 Rolex Kentucky Three‑Day Event. This year is the third year that the event has offered tailgating on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park for attendees to the equestrian competition.
On Saturday, April 27, Cross‑Country day of the event, Land Rover will award an extensive prize package to the most creative, best‑decorated and best‑catered Land Rover tailgate party. The four‑day‑long equestrian event will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, and is open to the public from Thursday, April 25 through Sunday, April 28.
If one researches on Wikipedia, the term tailgate party refers to the practice of engaging in a social drinking and/or eating event that uses the tailgate or back of truck, wagon, or SUV as a buffet table. In British English, the tailgate is commonly referred to as the 'boot' and sometimes called the hatch, and is a door on the back of a vehicle that can be moved either up or down, such as on a pickup truck or hatchback.
As the perfect vehicle to use for tailgating, Land Rover hopes to see its vehicles used in a creative manner that would suit its British breeding. Those competing in the Land Rover Tailgate Challenge will go up against James and Margaret White, who took first place at last year's Challenge with their equestrian‑themed tailgate.
"In the spirit of traditional English tailgates, we are encouraging our guests to show off their best Land Rover tailgate display," said Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America. "Using a Land Rover vehicle to tailgate alongside the world's most talented horses and riders is a natural fit and a great setting for some friendly competition!"
The Challenge winners will be awarded two 2013 Rolex Kentucky Sponsor Pavilion Hospitality tickets, two reserved grandstand seats for the Event, a premium tailgate space and the use of a Land Rover vehicle for the weekend for the 2014 event ‑ making their experience at the 2013 Rolex Kentucky Three‑Day Event one to remember.
Entry in the Challenge requires the purchase of an official event tailgate spot, and participants must be ready to show off their finest tailgate set‑up no later than 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The tailgate area is located adjacent to the Cross‑Country course, allowing attendees to get up‑close and personal as the horses and riders gallop over four miles of the Kentucky Horse Park's terrain.
Participants will be judged equally on the tailgate presentation, the creativity and thought put behind the set‑up and how the food is integrated into the setting. Judges for the Tailgate Challenge will include a member of the Equestrian Events Inc, (EEI) team, the event organizer, and a Land Rover representative.
The 2013 Rolex Kentucky Three‑Day Event, the Western Hemisphere's only Four Star Three‑Day Event, features the 16th Rolex USEF Four Star Championship for the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation Pinnacle Cup. The Event features the world's best horses and riders vying for their share of $250,000 in prize money as well as a shot at the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing.
