8 February 2018

  • Range Rover Velar recognized for winning combination of performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency and value

(MAHWAH, NJ) – February 8, 2018 – MotorWeek, television’s original automotive magazine, has named the all‑new 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar “Best Luxury Utility” as part of the 2018 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards.

Now in its 36th year, the MotorWeek annual Drivers’ Choice Awards represent what the television program identifies as the best automotive choices for a large range of lifestyles based on trends and innovations. Winners are chosen based on performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency and value. Each year the editorial staff evaluates more than more than 150 cars, trucks and SUVs.

“Having the Range Rover Velar recognized in this year’s MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards is a tremendous honor,” said Kim McCullough, Vice President of Marketing, Jaguar Land Rover North America. “As we enter the Land Rover brand’s 70th anniversary year, receiving this award further underscores the brand’s commitment to offer an exciting blend of performance, capability, luxury and technology."

This award highlights the momentum the brand has gained with another record‑breaking sales year in 2017. Land Rover ended with an all‑time high mark of 74,739 units sold. The Velar sold 1,694 units in December, making it the most popular vehicle among Jaguar and Land Rover buyers for the last three consecutive months since its launch in late August.

"The Range Rover Velar wins our MotorWeek Best Luxury Utility award because it is a segment standout in numerous ways; from its ultra‑modern and extremely luxurious interior, to its suitably practical design, to Range Rover’s unique capability of delivering a discerning and highly entertaining to drive package regardless of road type,” said John Davis, MotorWeek Creator and Host. “There just is no other luxury utility its size that comes close."

As the fourth member of the Range Rover family, the Velar is positioned between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. Refined for every occasion and capable across a variety of terrains, the Velar makes use of unique sustainable materials and advanced engineering to offer new levels of refinement, elegance and technology. Advanced technology complements the contemporary design, including full‑LED headlights, flush‑deployable handles, and a coefficient of drag of only 0.32Cd – the most aerodynamically efficient Land Rover ever produced.

The Range Rover Velar features a highly sophisticated all‑wheel drive system and is available with four‑corner air suspension, delivering peerless refinement and unrivaled comfort and control. In the U.S., three engines are currently offered, including a 247HP 2.0‑liter Ingenium turbocharged gasoline engine, 180HP 2.0‑liter Ingenium turbocharged diesel engine, and potent 380HP 3.0‑liter supercharged V6 gasoline engine.

An episode of MotorWeek featuring all winners is currently scheduled to air beginning February 10 on PBS and on Discovery Channel’s Velocity Network, February 20.
