Land Rover announced it will reveal the seven winners of the first‑ever ‘Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards’ in a virtual live event on Tuesday, September 28 at 3PM ET.
Inspired by the endless acts of service across the U.S. from extraordinary non‑profits, Land Rover launched the ‘Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards’ to celebrate U.S.‑based charitable organizations that are making a positive impact in their local community. To honor the 70‑year history of the brand, and the legacy of the Defender supporting humanitarian agencies across the world, the brand will award custom outfitted Defender vehicles to seven organizations to help further their charitable efforts.
The seven categories for the awards are as follows:
1. Search and Rescue
2. Coastal and Marine Conservation
3. Animal Welfare
4. First Responders
5. Environmental
6. Urban Improvement
7. Fire Services
To be considered for the awards, organizations from across the US submitted videos on their mission, how they address a need in their community, and how a Land Rover Defender would help further those efforts. For finalist judging, Land Rover called upon some of the brand’s partners that go above and beyond to inspire and help others. Judges included champion skier Lindsey Vonn, big wave surfer Laird Hamilton, former professional hockey player Meghan Duggan, TV personality Christian Murphy and famed paraglider Gavin McClurg. The finalists per category were then announced and open to public voting.
Since the initial announcement of the awards in March 2021, Land Rover received over 300 submissions from organizations and 165,000 votes were cast across the finalists in the seven categories.
The Land Rover ‘Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards’ virtual live event will be hosted by adventurer and Defender enthusiast Christian Murphy, and will also feature other notable brand partners.
