(MAHWAH, N.J.) – May 12, 2017 – Today, Land Rover begins an off‑road competition giving consumers a chance to win one of four spots on the Land Rover Experience Tour Peru 2017 where they’ll drive the new Land Rover Discovery on an extreme six‑day off‑road expedition through the Peruvian mountains, jungles and desert.
Trials will be conducted at four locations across the United States, beginning at Overland Expo West from May 12 ‑14, where the first of the four winners will be selected. One additional winner will be selected from each of the three Land Rover Experience (LRE) Driving Centers in the United States including the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California; the Equinox Resort in Manchester, Vermont; and the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Trials at all three LRE centers will take place on select weekends between June 1 and August 31.
The competition is free to paying attendees of Overland West and to anyone who wishes to participate at one the three LRE centers. Consumers have the ability to enter the competition by visiting the Land Rover display at Overland Expo West, visiting http://www.landroverusa.com/experiences/index.html or calling their local Land Rover Experience Driving Center for upcoming trial schedules. A participant may enter the trial once at the Overland Expo West and only once at one of the three LRE locations.
During the trials, participants will drive an off‑road course designed by Land Rover driving instructors and be judged on both their precision tackling a variety of obstacles and their speed to complete the course in a safe manner. Drivers will be asked to navigate through a series of obstacles marked by wooden canes along the route; these include side tilts, articulation holes, down‑hill descents, off‑chamber cones, and more. No two trial courses will be the same, however they will all include similar off‑road obstacles.
An instructor inside the vehicle and additional instructors observing from outside the vehicle will judge the accuracy at which the driver maneuvers the Discovery through each of the gates and will track the time it takes to complete the entire course. During the trials, emphasis is placed on vehicle preservation and the precision of the person driving on the tight and technical courses. Points will be deducted from the driver’s overall score for touching any of the canes or unsafely traversing any of the obstacles. The participant scored to have the best time and the most precise run will win a spot on the Land Rover Experience Tour Peru 2017.
“Creating this competition to give consumers the chance to win a trip on the Land Rover Experience Tour taking place in Peru this year, provides an opportunity for us to showcase the unique features of the new Land Rover Discovery and engage with adventure minded individuals at our Experience school locations,” said Kim McCullough, Brand VP, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
The four winners, travelling in groups of two, will join separate waves of the Land Rover Experience Tour Peru 2017. One pair of winners will join the program from October 28 to November 3 as the group overlands more than 500 miles from Cusco, through Machu Piccu, Pitchari, Satipo, ending their trip in Huancayo. The second pair of winners will join the program from November 4 to November 9 as the tour leaves Huancayo and drives almost 400 miles over the Peruvian mountains and through the desert to Pisco, Peru.
Participants will drive the Land Rover Discovery on a variety of terrains including sand dunes, rocky riverbeds and mountain roads as they experience places like Machu Picchu, the Peruvian desert and jungle, caves alongside the Pacific Ocean, and local villages. Accommodations will include a mix of hotel stays and natural campsites depending on location.
Beginning June 1, consumers can visit http://www.landroverusa.com/experiences/index.html to sign up for a spot at the trials at one of the LRE centers.
